At the end of June, our practice PA Kate Sloman will be flying to Mexico to help out in an orphanage/children’s centre for 2 weeks. She will be working voluntarily and staying with a local host family. She has booked her trip through a company called Projects Abroad who were established in 1992 and who have helped over 50,000 people volunteer on a number of different projects in 25+ Countries.
Kate’s project will involve taking care of babies and children who are in urgent need of some love and attention. She will be helping them learn basic English, teaching them to dance, feeding them, playing with them and generally assisting the limited staff they have out there with the day to day running of the centre.
Projects Abroad have a slogan which says “nobody can do everything but everyone can do something!” and that is Kate’s aim. As this experience is unpaid, Kate will be contributing a significant proportion of her own funds but will also be taking part in some fundraising events between now and June in order to help cover the cost of flights, the Projects Abroad programme fee, vaccinations etc so if you would like to contribute, please do so through the page below:
We are all hoping it will be a rewarding experience for Kate. The children and the staff will be lucky to have her. In order to kickstart Kate’s fundraising campaign, some of the nurses have arranged a table top and cake sale to raise funds for her trip. The details are below and all donations will be gratefully received. Thank you. Sarah Oades
